International relationships

HOBE has via University of Copenhagen become a formal member of the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science (CUAHSI). This organization represents more than one hundred United States universities and receives support from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop infrastructure and services for the advancement of hydrologic science and education. CUAHSI is promoting the establishment hydrological observatories and critical zone observatories and issue recommendations for accurate and precise measurements of hydrological fluxes using recent advances in environmental sensors. HOBE receives via this membership invitations to workshops and cyber seminars and has been asked to present its research activities at the first Biennial Colloquium.

HOBE collaborates closely with the German ‘Terrestrial Environmental Observatory’ (TERENO). This is a joint program of several Helmholtz Research Centers: Forschungszentrum Jülich, Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research–UFZ, Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, Helmholtz Zentrum München–German Center for Environmental Health, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences–GFZ. Scientists from HOBE and TERENO have visited each other on numerous occasions. There is also a mutual representation on the advisory boards. HOBE has adopted TERENO’s webbased database interface.
